Maraton Piasków jest uznawany za jeden z najbardziej wymagających biegów na świecie.<br />By go ukończyć trzeba przebiec 250km po Saharze na terenie Maroka, co zajmuje ponad 6 dni.<br />W 1994 roku, były olimpijczyk z Włoch, Mauro Prosperi wziął udział w tym wyścigu. Jednak po 4 dniach natrafił na burzę piaskową, która trwała 8h. <br />Prosperi stracił orientację i nie miał już żadnych zapasów wody i jedzenia.<br />Zaczął pić własny mocz. Kilka dni później znalazł opuszczony budynek, w którym mieszkały nietoperze.<br />Prosperi złapał 20 z nich i zjadł je na surowo.<br />Później udało mu się znaleźć oazę i uzupełnić zapasy wody.<br />Po 9 dniach napotkał lokalną kobietę, która pomogła biegaczowi. Był 300km poza trasą i znajdował się już na terytorium Algierii.<br />Został zabrany do szpitala. Był poważnie odwodniony i stracił prawie 16kg wagi.<br />Zajęło mu lata by dojść do siebie. Jego organizm dopiero po 2 latach zaczął przyjmować posiłki w formie stałej.<br />Jednak ten twardziej w tym roku ponownie wziął udział w tym morderczym maratonie. Tym razem udało mu się go ukończyć.

⁣This trail is located at the boundary of Gatanga in Muranga County with
Gatundu North in Kiambu County. The drive to the start point is scenic,
winding through the tea fields of Gatura and Kiarutara. Set in the
Southern Aberdares forest, the trail starts from an old fishing camp and
leads to the forest full of indigenous trees. The trail is well-covered
providing much-desired shade from the sun. The trail then goes down to a
giant mugumo tree before crossing the Chania River and then following
the Ragia river to the double-tier waterfall. This trail, just like the
meaning in Kikuyu, will surely shock and awe you at every turn. The
views of the surrounding landscape are breathtaking, and the natural
beauty of the area will leave you in awe.

The trail is relatively short but very adventurous with multiple river
crossings and walking on an unbeaten trail. A walking stick would be
ideal to help you wade across the rivers. The trail takes only 4 hours
if you start at the water intake point or 6-7hours of you start at the
fishing camp
